Choosing the right trail is the first step toward a successful Mount Rinjani adventure. The mountain features diverse ecosystems, ranging from dense tropical rainforests to open savannahs and rocky alpine ridges. At Syam Trekker, we utilize the official routes to ensure your safety while maximizing the incredible views.

Here is a breakdown of the primary gateways and trekking paths to help you map out your journey.
The Main Trailheads (Gateways)
Mount Rinjani has two traditional main starting points, each offering a completely different environment:
-
Sembalun Village (East): Starting at an elevation of 1,156 meters, this is the preferred trailhead for summit-seekers. The trail begins with a gradual incline through open, rolling savannahs before a steep climb to the crater rim.
-
Senaru Village (North): Starting at 601 meters, this route takes you through a thick, shaded tropical rainforest. It is the classic route for reaching the Senaru Crater Rim and is famous for its wildlife, including the rare black ebony leaf monkey.
Note: The Torean Route is an increasingly popular third option, heavily favored as a descent route due to its dramatic, “Jurassic Park”-style valleys and waterfalls.
